Before you get in touch

Is it worth repairing, or should I just buy a new one?

That's the first thing I work out, and I'll tell you honestly. Often a machine that feels finished needs one part — usually a drive — and comes back for a fraction of a replacement. Sometimes the repair genuinely costs more than it's worth, and then I say so with the numbers rather than talking you into work.

My laptop is six or seven years old. Is it too old to bother with?

Usually not. Age isn't what kills a computer — a failing drive, a dead battery, dust and dried thermal paste are. A machine of that age with an SSD and a clean install is often perfectly good for everyday use for years more.

I can't describe what's wrong. Does that matter?

Not at all. “It's slow”, “it makes a noise” or “it just stopped” are all fine starting points. Working out what's actually happening is the job, not something you need to do first.

How it works

Do I have to bring my computer somewhere?

No. I come to your home or office anywhere in northern Luxembourg. Most repairs — drives, memory, cleaning, software, virus removal, network problems — are finished during that visit.

What if it needs to go to a workshop?

Some jobs need proper bench conditions or parts ordered in: screen replacements, board-level work, longer data recovery. If that's the case you'll know during the visit, along with what it involves, before anything leaves your house.

How long does a repair take?

A home visit is usually one to two hours and finishes the job. Where parts have to be ordered, the wait depends on the part — you'll get an estimate before agreeing to anything.

Which brands and systems do you work on?

Any brand of Windows PC or laptop, and Linux. Older Macs for straightforward work like drives, memory and cleaning — for newer soldered Apple hardware I'll tell you honestly if a specialist is the better call.

Do you work on phones and tablets?

For setup, transferring photos, backups and general help, yes. I don't do phone screen or battery replacements — that's a different trade and you're better served by someone who does it daily.

Cost

What does it cost?

The price is agreed before any work starts, so there's no surprise at the end. Tell me the symptoms and roughly what the machine is, and I'll tell you what you're looking at.

Do I pay if it turns out it can't be fixed?

Diagnosis is work and does carry a cost, but you'll know that figure up front, and you'll never be charged for repair work that wasn't agreed or didn't happen. If I can't fix something, I'll say so plainly and tell you what your options are.

Your data, and trust

Will I lose my photos and files?

That's the thing I protect first. Where a repair carries any risk to your data, I'll tell you before starting and we'll talk about backing up. On a drive that's already failing, recovery isn't always fully possible — but you'll get a straight assessment rather than a promise I can't keep.

Do you look through my files?

No. I access only what's needed to diagnose and fix the fault you've reported, and nothing gets copied or kept.

Do you need my passwords?

No. If something needs signing into, you type it in yourself — I've no need to see it. And it's worth knowing generally: no honest technician will ever ask you to hand over a password. If anyone does, whoever they claim to be, that's your signal to stop.

What if I'm not confident with technology?

Then you're in the right place. Explaining things in plain words is most of the job, and if what you really want is someone patient to sit down and show you how something works, that's a service in its own right.

Which areas do you cover, and what languages do you speak?

Home visits across Clervaux and northern Luxembourg — Troisvierges, Wiltz, Vianden, Hosingen, Wincrange and the villages between them — and remote support anywhere in Luxembourg. I work in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
